A suspicious package forced Asheville Regional Airport (AVL) to close down for a couple of hours Friday morning (10-6-2017).  Authorities say it was left on a curb outside of the baggage claim area and was discovered around 7AM  Investigators say it was intentionally made to resemble an explosive device.

The terminal was evacuated until it could be determined that the package was safe.  The FBI is working with the Asheville Regional Airport Police Department, the Asheville Police Department, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation on the case.  They are studying video survalence to determine suspects and motive in the incident.

The terminal was reopened just before 9AM and, although there was a long line reported at the security checkpoint, airport officials say they are now on a normal flight schedule.
