Students in the School District of Pickens County (SDPC) will have to make up classes for the two days schools were closed because of Hurricane Irma.

The school district announced that schools in Pickens will be open on Friday, March 16 and Friday, March 30.  Both days were built in to the school calendar to use in case of inclement weather.
In addition, students at Hagood Elementary School missed a third day of school due to a power outage.  The rest of Pickens County Schools were in session.  Hagood students will make up their missed day on October 16, which had been scheduled as a teacher work day.  Superintendent of schools, Dr. Danny Merck, says that while Hagood was closed, teachers held a day of professional development at a neighboring school.

SDPC has one more day, April 30, reserved on the calendar in case of any more inclement weather this year.  South Carolina law requires schools make up the first three days missed due to any inclement weather before asking for days to be forgiven. If more than three days are missed and subsequently made up, local school boards can elect to forgive up to three missed days.
