A new fire station will be opening soon in Union County.  The 9,300 square foot fire station for the Bonham Fire Department will have 4 bay doors, training space for 18 firefighters and an exercise room to help promote physical fitness among the firefighters.

Total cost is $1.2 million. $100,000 came from the State of South Carolina thanks to the efforts of State Senator Shane Martin and District 42 House Representative Mike Anthony.

Fire Chief says they hope that, not only will the new, modern facility bring in more recruits for the department, but that the new location will cut down response time on calls.  It is located at Oak Grove Road and Jonesville Highway between Union and Jonesville, SC.  The station provides fire protection services for several industrial parks in Union County, along with residential areas.

Over the next week, the station's parking lot will be paved and more electric work needs to be done on the building.

They hope to open the fire station next month.  The local contractor was Kingsmore Construction.
